If anyone says anything to you, you are to say, ‘The Lord needs them,’ ¹  and he will send them at once.”

They said to him, “He will utterly destroy those evil men! Then he will lease the vineyard to other tenants who will give him his portion at the harvest.”

All ¹  the nations will be assembled before him, and he will separate people one from another like a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.

Then he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. He ¹  said to Peter, “So, couldn’t you stay awake with me for one hour?

Therefore go ¹  and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, ² 

teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And remember, ¹  I am with you ²  always, to the end of the age.” ³ 

Going on a little farther, he saw James, the son of Zebedee, and John his brother in their ¹  boat mending nets.

Immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.

The people there ¹  were amazed by his teaching, because he taught them like one who had authority, ²  not like the experts in the law. ³ 

Now ¹  the herdsmen ran off and spread the news in the town and countryside, and the people went out to see what had happened.

Jesus ¹  called the twelve and began to send them out two by two. He gave them authority over the unclean spirits. ² 

If I send them home hungry, they will faint on the way, and some of them have come from a great distance.”

He asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered him, ¹  “You are the Christ.” ² 

He had one left, his one dear son. ¹  Finally he sent him to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’

Now ¹  they wanted to arrest him (but they feared the crowd), because they realized that he told this parable against them. So ²  they left him and went away. ³ 

Then ¹  he came and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “Simon, are you sleeping? Couldn’t you stay awake for one hour?

When he came again he found them sleeping; they could not keep their eyes open. ¹  And they did not know what to tell him.

they will pick up snakes with their hands, and whatever poison they drink will not harm them; ¹  they will place their hands on the sick and they will be well.”

All ¹  their neighbors were filled with fear, and throughout the entire hill country of Judea all these things were talked about.

So ¹  the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising ²  God for all they had heard and seen; everything was just as they had been told. ³
