For just like the lightning ¹  comes from the east and flashes to the west, so the coming of the Son of Man will be.

And they knew nothing until the flood came and took them all away. ¹  It will be the same at the coming of the Son of Man. ² 

Then he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. He ¹  said to Peter, “So, couldn’t you stay awake with me for one hour?

Now ¹  immediately, when Jesus realized in his spirit that they were contemplating such thoughts, ²  he said to them, “Why are you thinking such things in your hearts? ³ 

And immediately the man ¹  stood up, took his stretcher, and went out in front of them all. They were all amazed and glorified God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”

He said to them, “Are you so foolish? Don’t you understand that whatever goes into a person from outside cannot defile him?

and his clothes became radiantly white, more so than any launderer in the world could bleach them.

Now when the centurion, ¹  who stood in front of him, saw how he died, ²  he said, “Truly this man was God’s Son!”

For just as Jonah became a sign to the people of Nineveh, ¹  so the Son of Man will be a sign ²  to this generation. ³ 

And if ¹  this is how God clothes the wild grass, ²  which is here ³  today and tomorrow is tossed into the fire to heat the oven, ⁴  how much more ⁵  will he clothe you, you people of little faith!

Jesus ¹  also said to the crowds, “When you see a cloud rising in the west, ²  you say at once, ‘A rainstorm ³  is coming,’ and it does.

In the same way therefore not one of you can be my disciple if he does not renounce all his own possessions. ¹ 

So you too, when you have done everything you were commanded to do, should say, ‘We are slaves undeserving of special praise; ¹  we have only done what was our duty.’” ² 

For just like the lightning flashes ¹  and lights up the sky from one side to the other, so will the Son of Man be in his day. ² 

Not so with you; ¹  instead the one who is greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader ²  like the one who serves. ³ 

Then ¹  some of those who were with us went to the tomb, and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see him.” ² 

Jacob’s well was there, so Jesus, since he was tired from the journey, sat right down beside ¹  the well. It was about noon. ² 

If we allow him to go on in this way, ¹  everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away our sanctuary ²  and our nation.”

And I know that his commandment is eternal life. ¹  Thus the things I say, I say just as the Father has told me.” ² 

but I am doing just what the Father commanded me, so that the world may know ¹  that I love the Father. ²  Get up, let us go from here.” ³
