The one who had received five talents went off right away and put his money to work ¹  and gained five more.

But the one who had received one talent went out and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money in it.

And after taking the cup and giving thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you,

After ¹  consulting together they bought the Potter’s Field with it, as a burial place for foreigners.

They ¹  spat on him and took the staff ²  and struck him repeatedly ³  on the head.

After ¹  they had assembled with the elders and formed a plan, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers,

Now ¹  they had forgotten to take bread, except for one loaf they had with them in the boat.

He took a little child and had him stand among them. Taking him in his arms, he said to them,

There were seven brothers. The first one married, ¹  and when he died he had no children.

The second married her and died without any children, and likewise the third.

They ¹  devour widows’ property, ²  and as a show make long prayers. These men will receive a more severe punishment.”

For everyone who asks ¹  receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door ²  will be opened.

It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed with ¹  three measures ²  of flour until all the dough had risen.” ³ 

Therefore he said, “A nobleman ¹  went to a distant country to receive ²  for himself a kingdom and then return. ³ 

and then the third married her, and in this same way all seven died, leaving no children.

He testifies about what he has seen and heard, but no one accepts his testimony.
