Then ¹  after he had spent everything, a severe famine took place in that country, and he began to be in need.

So ¹  he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree ²  to see him, because Jesus ³  was going to pass that way.

Everyone who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces, ¹  and the one on whom it falls will be crushed.” ² 

No one has ever seen God. The only one, ¹  himself God, who is in closest fellowship with ²  the Father, has made God ³  known. ⁴ 

So the Jewish leaders ¹  were looking for him at the feast, asking, “Where is he?” ² 

They ¹  heaped insults ²  on him, saying, ³  “You are his disciple! ⁴  We are disciples of Moses!

Jesus told him, “You have seen him; he ¹  is the one speaking with you.” ² 

Then the disciple whom Jesus loved ¹  leaned back against Jesus’ chest and asked him, “Lord, who is it?”

They ¹  brought him first to Annas, for he was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, who was high priest that year. ² 

Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She ¹  turned and said to him in Aramaic, ²  “Rabboni” ³  (which means Teacher). ⁴ 

So those who accepted ¹  his message ²  were baptized, and that day about three thousand people ³  were added. ⁴ 

Every person ¹  who does not obey that prophet will be destroyed and thus removed ²  from the people.’ ³ 

At that time ¹  she became sick ²  and died. When they had washed ³  her body, ⁴  they placed it in an upstairs room.

About that time King Herod ¹  laid hands on ²  some from the church to harm them. ³ 

After they had proclaimed the good news in that city and made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, ¹  to Iconium, ²  and to Antioch. ³ 

At daybreak ¹  the magistrates ²  sent their police officers, ³  saying, “Release those men.”

After he had gone through those regions ¹  and spoken many words of encouragement ²  to the believers there, ³  he came to Greece, ⁴ 

we said farewell ¹  to one another. ²  Then ³  we went aboard the ship, and they returned to their own homes. ⁴ 

So what benefit ¹  did you then reap ²  from those things that you are now ashamed of? For the end of those things is death.

Each competitor must exercise self-control in everything. They do it to receive a perishable crown, but we an imperishable one.
