Solomon sat on his father David’s throne, and his royal authority ¹  was firmly solidified.

Solomon did evil in the Lord’s sight; ¹  he did not remain loyal to ²  the Lord, like his father David had.

Then Solomon passed away ¹  and was buried in the city of his father David. ²  His son Rehoboam replaced him as king. ³ 

He brought the holy items that he and his father had made into the Lord’s temple, including the silver, gold, and other articles. ¹ 

He did evil in the sight of ¹  the Lord. He followed in his father’s footsteps and encouraged Israel to sin. ² 

He removed from the land any male cultic prostitutes who had managed to survive the reign of his father Asa. ¹ 

The boy grew and one day he went out to see his father who was with the harvest workers. ¹ 

He said to his father, “My head! My head!” His father ¹  told a servant, “Carry him to his mother.”

When he had secured control of the kingdom, ¹  he executed the servants who had assassinated his father. ² 

He did what the Lord approved, just as his father Amaziah had done. ¹ 

He did what the Lord approved, just as his father Uzziah had done. ¹ 

He did what the Lord approved, just as his ancestor David had done. ¹ 

along with Zadok, a young warrior, and twenty-two leaders from his family.
