Then the devil took him to the holy city, ¹  had him stand ²  on the highest point ³  of the temple,

When he was alone, those around him with the twelve asked him about the parables.

When the whole crowd saw him, they were amazed and ran ¹  at once and greeted him.

Then some Pharisees ¹  came, and to test him ²  they asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his ³  wife?” ⁴ 

Then ¹  they sent some of the Pharisees ²  and Herodians ³  to trap him with his own words. ⁴ 

Sadducees ¹  (who say there is no resurrection) ²  also came to him and asked him, ³ 

Now when Jesus returned, ¹  the crowd welcomed him, because they were all waiting for him.

and how our chief priests and rulers handed him over ¹  to be condemned to death, and crucified ²  him.

So when the Samaritans came to him, they began asking ¹  him to stay with them. ²  He stayed there two days,

Some of them were wanting to seize him, but no one laid a hand on him. ¹ 

and when he had been abandoned, ¹  Pharaoh’s daughter adopted ²  him and brought him up ³  as her own son.

As he was going along, approaching ¹  Damascus, suddenly a light from heaven flashed ²  around him.

When the brothers found out about this, they brought him down to Caesarea ¹  and sent him away to Tarsus.

Requesting him to do them a favor against Paul, ¹  they urged Festus ²  to summon him to Jerusalem, planning an ambush ³  to kill him along the way.

Therefore I am all the more eager to send him, ¹  so that when you see him again you can rejoice ²  and I can be free from anxiety.

They got up, forced ¹  him out of the town, ²  and brought him to the brow of the hill on which their town was built, so that ³  they could throw him down the cliff. ⁴ 

So now you and the council ¹  request the commanding officer ²  to bring him down to you, as if you were going to determine ³  his case ⁴  by conducting a more thorough inquiry. ⁵  We are ready to kill him ⁶  before he comes near this place.” ⁷ 

But they were expecting that he was going to swell up ¹  or suddenly drop dead. So after they had waited ²  a long time and had seen ³  nothing unusual happen ⁴  to him, they changed their minds ⁵  and said he was a god. ⁶ 

(Look! He is returning with the clouds, ¹  and every eye will see him, even ²  those who pierced him, ³  and all the tribes ⁴  on the earth will mourn because ⁵  of him. This will certainly come to pass! ⁶  Amen.) ⁷ 

And such a large crowd gathered around him that he got into a boat to sit while ¹  the whole crowd stood on the shore.
