I tell you the solemn truth, ¹  the slave ²  is not greater than his master, nor is the one who is sent as a messenger ³  greater than the one who sent him.

Now when they heard this, ¹  they were acutely distressed ²  and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “What should we do, brothers?”

They were devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, ¹  to the breaking of bread and to prayer. ² 

With ¹  great power the apostles were giving testimony ²  to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was on them all.

So Joseph, a Levite who was a native of Cyprus, called by the apostles Barnabas (which is translated “son of encouragement”), ¹ 

He ¹  kept back for himself part of the proceeds with his wife’s knowledge; he brought ²  only part of it and placed it at the apostles’ feet.

Now many miraculous signs ¹  and wonders came about among the people through the hands of the apostles. By ²  common consent ³  they were all meeting together in Solomon’s Portico. ⁴ 

and they summoned the apostles and had them beaten. ¹  Then ²  they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus and released them.

Now when the apostles in Jerusalem ¹  heard that Samaria had accepted the word ²  of God, they sent ³  Peter and John to them.

Now Simon, when he saw that the Spirit ¹  was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, offered them money,

Now the apostles and the brothers who were throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles too had accepted ¹  the word of God. ² 

But the population ¹  of the city was divided; some ²  sided with the Jews, and some with the apostles.

When they arrived in Jerusalem, they were received ¹  by the church and the apostles and the elders, and they reported ²  all the things God had done with them. ³ 

They sent this letter with them: ¹  From the apostles ²  and elders, your brothers, ³  to the Gentile brothers and sisters ⁴  in Antioch, ⁵  Syria, ⁶  and Cilicia, greetings!

As they went through the towns, ¹  they passed on ²  the decrees that had been decided on by the apostles and elders in Jerusalem ³  for the Gentile believers ⁴  to obey. ⁵ 

Now I am speaking to you Gentiles. Seeing that I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I magnify my ministry,

For, I think, God has exhibited us apostles last of all, as men condemned to die, because we have become a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to people.

Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? Are you not my work in the Lord?

If I am not an apostle to others, at least I am to you, for you are the confirming sign ¹  of my apostleship in the Lord.

Do we not have the right to the company of a believing wife, like the other apostles and the Lord’s brothers and Cephas?
