He made the moon to mark the months, ¹  and the sun sets according to a regular schedule. ² 

Praise him, O sun and moon! Praise him, all you shiny stars! ¹ 

The earth quakes ¹  before them; ²  the sky reverberates. ³  The sun and the moon grow dark; the stars refuse to shine. ⁴ 

But when the sun came up, they were scorched, and because they did not have sufficient root, they withered.

When the sun came up it was scorched, and because it did not have sufficient root, ¹  it withered.

“But in those days, after that suffering, ¹  the sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light;

The sun will be changed to darkness and the moon to blood before the great and glorious ¹  day of the Lord comes.

He removed from the entrance to the Lord’s temple the statues of horses ¹  that the kings of Judah had placed there in honor of the sun god. (They were kept near the room of Nathan Melech the eunuch, which was situated among the courtyards.) ²  He burned up the chariots devoted to the sun god. ³ 

The light of the full moon will be like the sun’s glare and the sun’s glare will be seven times brighter, like the light of seven days, ¹  when the Lord binds up his people’s fractured bones ²  and heals their severe wound. ³ 

before the sun and the light ¹  of the moon and the stars grow dark, and the clouds disappear ²  after the rain;

The sunlight will be turned to darkness and the moon to the color of blood, ¹  before the day of the Lord comes – that great and terrible day!

Look, I will make the shadow go back ten steps on the stairs of Ahaz.” ¹  And then the shadow went back ten steps. ² 

I reflected on everything that is accomplished by man ¹  on earth, ²  and I concluded: Everything ³  he has accomplished ⁴  is futile ⁵  – like chasing the wind! ⁶ 

They will never go hungry or be thirsty again, and the sun will not beat down on them, nor any burning heat, ¹ 

He is a well-watered plant ¹  in ²  the sun, its shoots spread ³  over its garden. ⁴ 

What benefit ¹  do people ²  get from all the effort which ³  they expend ⁴  on earth? ⁵ 

So I began to despair ¹  about all the fruit of ²  my labor ³  for which I worked so hard ⁴  on earth. ⁵ 

What does a man acquire from all his labor and from the anxiety that accompanies his toil on earth? ¹ 

I considered all the living who walk on earth, ¹  as well as the successor ²  who would arise ³  in his place.
