The fountains of the deep and the floodgates of heaven were closed, ¹  and the rain stopped falling from the sky.

They waited for me as people wait ¹  for the rain, and they opened their mouths ²  as for ³  the spring rains.

to cause it to rain on an uninhabited land, ¹  a desert where there are no human beings, ² 

May the Lord rain down ¹  burning coals ²  and brimstone ³  on the wicked! A whirlwind is what they deserve! ⁴ 

The trees of the Lord ¹  receive all the rain they need, ²  the cedars of Lebanon which he planted,

He covers ¹  the sky with clouds, provides the earth with rain, and causes grass to grow on the hillsides. ²

May he rain down ¹  fiery coals upon them! May he throw them into the fire! From bottomless pits they will not escape. ² 

In the light of the king’s face ¹  there is life, and his favor is like the clouds ²  of the spring rain. ³ 

before the sun and the light ¹  of the moon and the stars grow dark, and the clouds disappear ²  after the rain;
