and ¹  he contends with God on behalf of man as a man ²  pleads ³  for his friend.

You cause my friends and neighbors to keep their distance; ¹  those who know me leave me alone in the darkness. ²

A person who has friends ¹  may be harmed by them, ²  but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

Many people entreat the favor ¹  of a generous person, ²  and everyone is the friend ³  of the person who gives gifts. ⁴ 

The appetite ¹  of the wicked desires ²  evil; his neighbor is shown no favor ³  in his eyes.

The one who loves a pure heart ¹  and whose speech is gracious ²  – the king will be his friend. ³ 

Do not be a witness against your neighbor without cause, ¹  and do not deceive with your words. ² 

When you argue a case ¹  with your neighbor, do not reveal the secret of another person, ² 

Don’t set foot too frequently ¹  in your neighbor’s house, lest he become weary ²  of you and hate you.

Ointment and incense make the heart rejoice, ¹  likewise the sweetness of one’s friend from sincere counsel. ²
