Now we have such confidence in God through Christ.

Formerly when you did not know God, you were enslaved to beings that by nature are not gods at all. ¹ 

not in lustful passion like the Gentiles who do not know God.

Dear friends, if our conscience does not condemn us, we have confidence in the presence of God,

Jesus said to him, “Once again it is written: ‘You are not to put the Lord your God to the test.’” ¹ 

When ¹  the crowd saw this, they were afraid ²  and honored God who had given such authority to men. ³ 

He trusts in God – let God, if he wants to, deliver him now ¹  because he said, ‘I am God’s Son’!”

Immediately ¹  Zechariah’s ²  mouth was opened and his tongue ³  released, ⁴  and he spoke, blessing God.

Suddenly ¹  a vast, heavenly army ²  appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

Simeon ¹  took him in his arms and blessed God, saying, ² 

Jesus ¹  answered him, ²  “It is said, ‘You are not to put the Lord your God to the test.’” ³ 

(Now ¹  all the people who heard this, even the tax collectors, ²  acknowledged ³  God’s justice, because they had been baptized ⁴  with John’s baptism.

Then one of them, when he saw he was healed, turned back, praising ¹  God with a loud voice.

He said, ¹  “In a certain city ²  there was a judge ³  who neither feared God nor respected people. ⁴ 

No one has ever seen God. The only one, ¹  himself God, who is in closest fellowship with ²  the Father, has made God ³  known. ⁴ 

But even now I know that whatever you ask from God, God will grant ¹  you.” ² 

“Do not let your hearts be distressed. ¹  You believe in God; ²  believe also in me.

Then they secretly instigated ¹  some men to say, “We have heard this man ²  speaking blasphemous words against Moses and God.”

“Therefore I conclude ¹  that we should not cause extra difficulty ²  for those among the Gentiles ³  who are turning to God,

About midnight Paul and Silas were praying ¹  and singing hymns to God, ²  and the rest of ³  the prisoners were listening to them.
