For it is not the person who commends himself who is approved, but the person the Lord commends.

And everyone who has this hope focused ¹  on him purifies ²  himself, just as Jesus ³  is pure). ⁴

Little children, let no one deceive you: The one who practices righteousness ¹  is righteous, just as Jesus ²  is righteous.

nor do you have his word residing in you, because you do not believe the one whom he sent.

Jesus replied, ¹  “This is the deed ²  God requires ³  – to believe in the one whom he ⁴  sent.”

Some people said, ¹  “This is the man!” ²  while others said, “No, but he looks like him.” ³  The man himself ⁴  kept insisting, “I am the one!” ⁵ 

He replied, ¹  “I do not know whether he is a sinner. I do know one thing – that although I was blind, now I can see.”

“I tell you the solemn truth, ¹  the one who does not enter the sheepfold ²  by the door, ³  but climbs in some other way, is a thief and a robber.

And the person who saw it ¹  has testified (and his testimony is true, and he ²  knows that he is telling the truth), ³  so that you also may believe.

We have come to know love by this: ¹  that Jesus ²  laid down ³  his life for us; thus we ought to lay down our lives for our fellow Christians.

After ¹  he went out, that same slave found one of his fellow slaves who owed him one hundred silver coins. ²  So ³  he grabbed him by the throat and started to choke him, ⁴  saying, ‘Pay back what you owe me!’ ⁵
