For no one can lay any foundation other than what is being laid, which is Jesus Christ.

Can a fig tree produce olives, my brothers and sisters, ¹  or a vine produce figs? Neither can a salt water spring produce fresh water.

because the great day of their ¹  wrath has come, and who is able to withstand it?” ² 

“He saved others, but he cannot save himself! He is the king of Israel! If he comes down ¹  now from the cross, we will believe in him!

He said to them, “Are you so foolish? Don’t you understand that whatever goes into a person from outside cannot defile him?

and his clothes became radiantly white, more so than any launderer in the world could bleach them.

In the same way even the chief priests – together with the experts in the law ¹  – were mocking him among themselves: ²  “He saved others, but he cannot save himself!

In the same way therefore not one of you can be my disciple if he does not renounce all his own possessions. ¹ 

Nathanael ¹  replied, ²  “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” ³  Philip replied, ⁴  “Come and see.”

Jesus replied, ¹  “I tell you the solemn truth, ²  unless a person is born from above, ³  he cannot see the kingdom of God.” ⁴ 

John replied, ¹  “No one can receive anything unless it has been given to him from heaven.

No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, ¹  and I will raise him up at the last day.

Then the Jews who were hostile to Jesus ¹  began to argue with one another, ²  “How can this man ³  give us his flesh to eat?”

Then many of his disciples, when they heard these things, ¹  said, “This is a difficult ²  saying! ³  Who can understand it?” ⁴ 

So Jesus added, ¹  “Because of this I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has allowed him to come.” ² 

The world cannot hate you, but it hates me, because I am testifying about it that its deeds are evil.

We must perform the deeds ¹  of the one who sent me ²  as long as ³  it is daytime. Night is coming when no one can work.

My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, ¹  and no one can snatch ²  them from my Father’s hand.

If those people to whom the word of God came were called ‘gods’ (and the scripture cannot be broken), ¹ 

“No one can withhold the water for these people to be baptized, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we did, ¹  can he?” ²
