to open blind eyes, ¹  to release prisoners ²  from dungeons, those who live in darkness from prisons.

“Listen, you deaf ones! Take notice, ¹  you blind ones!

Bring out the people who are blind, even though they have eyes, those who are deaf, even though they have ears!

“Sit silently! Go to a hiding place, ¹  O daughter of the Babylonians! Indeed, ²  you will no longer be called ‘Queen of kingdoms.’

Gather your belongings together and prepare to leave the land, you people of Jerusalem ¹  who are being besieged. ² 

The city remained under siege until Zedekiah’s eleventh year.

He drove me into captivity ¹  and made me walk ²  in darkness and not light.

The punishment ¹  of Ephraim has been decreed; ²  his punishment is being stored up for the future.

“But you made the Nazirites drink wine; ¹  you commanded the prophets, ‘Do not prophesy!’

Take away from me your ¹  noisy songs; I don’t want to hear the music of your stringed instruments. ² 

“But they refused to pay attention, turning away stubbornly and stopping their ears so they could not hear.

Furthermore, the Father does not judge ¹  anyone, but has assigned ²  all judgment to the Son,

Where, then, is boasting? ¹  It is excluded! By what principle? ²  Of works? No, but by the principle of faith!

They ¹  will undergo the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his strength, ² 

But reject foolish and ignorant ¹  controversies, because you know they breed infighting. ² 

So ¹  we see that they could not enter because of unbelief.

The sky ¹  was split apart ²  like a scroll being rolled up, ³  and every mountain and island was moved from its place.

To you this entire prophetic revelation ¹  is like words in a sealed scroll. When they hand it to one who can read ²  and say, “Read this,” he responds, “I can’t, because it is sealed.”

But these people are looted and plundered; all of them are trapped in pits ¹  and held captive ²  in prisons. They were carried away as loot with no one to rescue them; they were carried away as plunder, and no one says, “Bring that back!” ³ 

The Lord said to me, “What do you see, Amos?” I said, “Tin.” The sovereign One then said, “Look, I am about to place tin among my people Israel. I will no longer overlook their sin. ¹
