The Lord is far ¹  from the wicked, but he hears ²  the prayer of the righteous. ³ 

Does God listen to his cry when distress overtakes him?

so that they caused ¹  the cry of the poor to come before him, so that he hears ²  the cry of the needy.

Surely it is an empty cry ¹  – God does not hear it; the Almighty does not take notice of it.

It scorns the tumult in the town; it does not hear the shouts of a driver. ¹ 

If I had harbored sin in my heart, ¹  the Lord would not have listened.

I love the Lord because he heard my plea for mercy, ² 

He satisfies the desire ¹  of his loyal followers; ²  he hears their cry for help and delivers them.

(Let the wise also ¹  hear ²  and gain ³  instruction, and let the discerning ⁴  acquire ⁵  guidance! ⁶ )

The one who gives an answer ¹  before he listens ²  – that is his folly and his shame. ³ 

You see ¹  many things, but don’t comprehend; ²  their ears are open, but do not hear.”

I will silence ¹  the noise of your songs; the sound of your harps will be heard no more.

But Moses said before the Lord, “Since I speak with difficulty, ¹  why should Pharaoh listen to me?”

After that a voice roars; he thunders with an exalted voice, and he does not hold back his lightning bolts ¹  when his voice is heard.

Realize that ¹  the Lord shows the godly special favor; ²  the Lord responds ³  when I cry out to him.

that does not respond to ¹  the magicians, or to a skilled snake-charmer.

Does the one who makes the human ear not hear? Does the one who forms the human eye not see? ¹ 

Whoever shares with a thief ¹  is his own enemy; ²  he hears the oath to testify, ³  but does not talk.

Jerusalem will bring me joy, and my people will bring me happiness. ¹  The sound of weeping or cries of sorrow will never be heard in her again.

The Lord said to Moses, “Pharaoh will not listen to you, so that my wonders ¹  may be multiplied in the land of Egypt.”
