Joseph recognized his brothers, but they did not recognize him.

Therefore, he knows their deeds, he overthrows them ¹  in the night ²  and they are crushed.

The one who hates others disguises ¹  it with his lips, but he stores up ²  deceit within him. ³ 

He returns no more to his house, nor does his place of residence ¹  know him ²  any more.

Have you never questioned those who travel the roads? Do you not recognize their accounts ¹  –

These sayings also are from the wise: To show partiality ¹  in judgment is terrible: ² 

He did not recognize him because his hands were hairy, like his brother Esau’s hands. So Isaac blessed Jacob. ¹ 

He recognized it and exclaimed, “It is my son’s tunic! A wild animal has eaten him! ¹  Joseph has surely been torn to pieces!”

I recognized the fact that God had not sent him, for he had spoken the prophecy against me as a hired agent of Tobiah and Sanballat. ¹ 

Half of their children spoke the language of Ashdod (or the language of one of the other peoples mentioned ¹ ) and were unable to speak the language of Judah.

It stands still, ¹  but I cannot recognize ²  its appearance; an image is before my eyes, and I hear a murmuring voice: ³ 

There are those ¹  who rebel against the light; they do not know its ways and they do not stay on its paths.

but when the hot wind ¹  blows by, it disappears, and one can no longer even spot the place where it once grew.

Even a young man ¹  is known ²  by his actions, whether his activity is pure and whether it is right. ³ 

To show partiality ¹  is terrible, ²  for a person will transgress over the smallest piece of bread. ³ 

When Joseph saw his brothers, he recognized them, but he pretended to be a stranger ¹  to them and spoke to them harshly. He asked, “Where do you come from?” They answered, ²  “From the land of Canaan, to buy grain for food.” ³ 

Then they brought the special tunic to their father ¹  and said, “We found this. Determine now whether it is your son’s tunic or not.”

Judah recognized them and said, “She is more upright ¹  than I am, because I wouldn’t give her to Shelah my son.” He did not have sexual relations with her ²  again.

You must not pervert justice or show favor. Do not take a bribe, for bribes blind the eyes of the wise and distort ¹  the words of the righteous. ²
