But man ¹  dies and is powerless; ²  he expires – and where is he? ³ 

to turn a person from his sin, ¹  and to cover a person’s pride. ² 

What man is like Job, who ¹  drinks derision ²  like water!

Get ready for a difficult task ¹  like a man; I will question you and you will inform me!

“Get ready for a difficult task ¹  like a man. I will question you and you will inform me!

The Lord grants success to the one whose behavior he finds commendable. ¹ 

א (Alef) ¹  I am the man ²  who has experienced ³  affliction from the rod ⁴  of his wrath.

It is good for a man ¹  to bear ²  the yoke ³  while he is young. ⁴ 

to deprive a person ¹  of his rights ²  in the presence of the Most High,

A woman must not wear men’s clothing, ¹  nor should a man dress up in women’s clothing, for anyone who does this is offensive ²  to the Lord your God.

“Let the day on which ¹  I was born ²  perish, and the night that said, ³  ‘A man ⁴  has been conceived!’ ⁵ 

Why is light given ¹  to a man ²  whose way is hidden, ³  and whom God has hedged in? ⁴ 

“Is ¹  a mortal man ²  righteous ³  before ⁴  God? Or a man pure ⁵  before his Creator? ⁶ 

Are your days like the days of a mortal, or your years like the years ¹  of a mortal,

and ¹  he contends with God on behalf of man as a man ²  pleads ³  for his friend.

“Is it to God that a strong man is of benefit? Is it to him that even a wise man is profitable? ¹ 

For he says, ‘It does not profit a man when he makes his delight with God.’ ¹ 

Men of understanding say to me – any wise man listening to me says –

How blessed is the one ¹  whom you instruct, O Lord, the one whom you teach from your law,

Yes indeed, the man who fears the Lord will be blessed in this way. ¹
