But his sons did not follow ¹  his ways. Instead, they made money dishonestly, accepted bribes, and perverted justice. ² 

You stretched out your right hand, the earth swallowed them. ¹ 

“You must not turn away justice for your poor people in their lawsuits.

He made the sky sink ¹  as he descended; a thick cloud was under his feet.

He covers himself with light as if it were a garment. He stretches out the skies like a tent curtain,

I am fading away like a shadow at the end of the day; ¹  I am shaken off like a locust.

and listened to me. ¹  As long as I live, I will call to him when I need help. ² 

I am determined to obey ¹  your statutes at all times, to the very end.

The enemies who chase me are numerous. ¹  Yet I do not turn aside from your rules.

by making ¹  your ear ²  attentive to wisdom, and ³  by turning ⁴  your heart ⁵  to understanding,

My child, pay attention to my words; listen attentively ¹  to my sayings.

My child, ²  be attentive to my wisdom, pay close attention ³  to my understanding,

She persuaded him ¹  with persuasive words; ²  with her smooth talk ³  she compelled him. ⁴ 

to deprive a person ¹  of his rights ²  in the presence of the Most High,

“You must not follow a crowd ¹  in doing evil things; ²  in a lawsuit you must not offer testimony that agrees with a crowd so as to pervert justice, ³ 

The donkey saw me and turned from me these three times. If ¹  she had not turned from me, I would have killed you but saved her alive.”

Then Israel traveled on and pitched his tent beyond Migdal Eder. ¹ 

he alone spreads out the heavens, and treads ¹  on the waves of the sea; ² 

for he stretches out his hand against God, ¹  and vaunts himself ²  against the Almighty,

My feet ¹  have followed ²  his steps closely; I have kept to his way and have not turned aside. ³
