In the beginning ¹  was the Word, and the Word was with God, ²  and the Word was fully God. ³ 

This saying ¹  is trustworthy and deserves full acceptance.

This saying ¹  is trustworthy: ²  If we died with him, we will also live with him.

For one person is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, and another the message of knowledge according to the same Spirit,

They ¹  were amazed ²  at his teaching, because he spoke ³  with authority. ⁴ 

“Now the parable means ¹  this: The seed is the word of God.

Set them apart ¹  in the truth; your word is truth.

But the word of God ¹  kept on increasing ²  and multiplying.

So the word of the Lord was spreading ¹  through the entire region.

In this way the word of the Lord ¹  continued to grow in power ²  and to prevail. ³ 

Did the word of God begin with you, ¹  or did it come to you alone?

This saying ¹  is trustworthy: “If someone aspires to the office of overseer, ²  he desires a good work.”

Let your word be ‘Yes, yes’ or ‘No, no.’ More than this is from the evil one. ¹ 

This ¹  report ²  about Jesus ³  circulated ⁴  throughout ⁵  Judea and all the surrounding country.

For in this instance the saying is true, ¹  ‘One sows and another reaps.’

Now this happened ¹  to fulfill the word that is written in their law, ‘They hated me without reason.’ ² 

He said this ¹  to fulfill the word he had spoken, ²  “I have not lost a single one of those whom you gave me.” ³ 

(This happened ¹  to fulfill the word Jesus had spoken when he indicated ²  what kind of death he was going to die. ³ )

It is not as though the word of God had failed. For not all those who are descended from Israel are truly Israel, ¹ 

For this is what the promise declared: ¹  “About a year from now ²  I will return and Sarah will have a son.” ³
