The ¹  disciples were greatly astonished when they heard this and said, “Then who can be saved?” ² 

If ¹  a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom will not be able to stand.

They were even more astonished and said ¹  to one another, “Then ²  who can be saved?” ³ 

And which of you by worrying ¹  can add an hour to his life? ² 

Those who heard this said, “Then ¹  who can be saved?” ² 

Nicodemus replied, ¹  “How can these things be?” ² 

If we are unfaithful, he remains faithful, since he cannot deny himself. ¹ 

For since he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted.

But no human being can subdue the tongue; it is a restless ¹  evil, full of deadly poison.

Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter his mother’s womb and be born a second time, can he?” ¹ 

You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill cannot be hidden.

And which of you by worrying can add even one hour to his life? ¹ 

A good tree is not able to bear bad fruit, nor a bad tree to bear good fruit.

“Why does this man speak this way? He is blaspheming! ¹  Who can forgive sins but God alone?”

So ¹  he called them and spoke to them in parables: ²  “How can Satan cast out Satan?

And if Satan rises against himself and is divided, he is not able to stand and his end has come.

He told them, “This kind can come out only by prayer.” ¹ 

He also told them a parable: “Someone who is blind cannot lead another who is blind, can he? ¹  Won’t they both fall ²  into a pit?

Whoever does not carry his own cross ¹  and follow ²  me cannot be my disciple.

Others said, “These are not the words ¹  of someone possessed by a demon. A demon cannot cause the blind to see, ²  can it?” ³
