I fed you milk, ¹  not solid food, for you were not yet ready. In fact, you are still not ready,

You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot take part in the table of the Lord and the table of demons.

I brought him to your disciples, but ¹  they were not able to heal him.”

The ¹  disciples were greatly astonished when they heard this and said, “Then who can be saved?” ² 

It ¹  could have been sold at a high price and the money ²  given to the poor!”

Now ¹  Jesus ²  went home, and a crowd gathered so that they were not able to eat.

If ¹  a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom will not be able to stand.

If a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand.

So ¹  with many parables like these, he spoke the word to them, as they were able to hear.

They were even more astonished and said ¹  to one another, “Then ²  who can be saved?” ³ 

I ¹  begged ²  your disciples to cast it out, but ³  they could not do so.” ⁴ 

And which of you by worrying ¹  can add an hour to his life? ² 

So if ¹  you cannot do such a very little thing as this, why do you worry about ²  the rest?

Another ¹  said, ‘I just got married, and I cannot come.’ ² 

Those who heard this said, “Then ¹  who can be saved?” ² 

Nicodemus replied, ¹  “How can these things be?” ² 

If this man ¹  were not from God, he could do nothing.”

For this reason they could not believe, ¹  because again Isaiah said,

“I have many more things to say to you, ¹  but you cannot bear ²  them now.

for it is impossible ¹  for us not to speak about what we have seen and heard.”
