For I am jealous for you with godly jealousy, because I promised you in marriage to one husband, ¹  to present you as a pure ²  virgin to Christ.

because the husband is the head of the wife as also Christ is the head of the church – he himself being the savior of the body.

But as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

So I want the men ¹  to pray ²  in every place, lifting up holy hands ³  without anger or dispute.

The overseer ¹  then must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, ²  temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, an able teacher,

An elder must be blameless, ¹  the husband of one wife, ²  with faithful children ³  who cannot be charged with dissipation or rebellion.

to be self-controlled, ¹  pure, fulfilling their duties at home, ²  kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the message ³  of God may not be discredited. ⁴ 

For if someone ¹  comes into your assembly ²  wearing a gold ring and fine clothing, and a poor person enters in filthy clothes,

For in the same way the holy women who hoped in God long ago adorned themselves by being subject to their husbands,

When the people ¹  there recognized him, they sent word into all the surrounding area, and they brought all their sick to him.

There was also a prophetess, Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old, ¹  having been married to her husband for seven years until his death.

But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Go away from me, Lord, ¹  for I am a sinful man!” ² 

Just then ¹  some men showed up, carrying a paralyzed man ²  on a stretcher. ³  They ⁴  were trying to bring him in and place him before Jesus. ⁵ 

The man from whom the demons had gone out begged to go ¹  with him, but Jesus ²  sent him away, saying,

Then ¹  a man from the crowd cried out, ²  “Teacher, I beg you to look at ³  my son – he is my only child!

“Everyone who divorces his wife and marries ¹  someone else commits adultery, and the one who marries a woman divorced from her husband commits adultery.

While ¹  they were perplexed ²  about this, suddenly ³  two men stood beside them in dazzling ⁴  attire.

This is the one about whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who is greater than I am, ¹  because he existed before me.’

As ¹  they were still staring into the sky while he was going, suddenly ²  two men in white clothing stood near them

Thus one of the men ¹  who have accompanied us during all the time the Lord Jesus associated with ²  us,
