The entire company ¹  of Israelites murmured against Moses and Aaron in the desert.

¹ In the third month after the Israelites went out ²  from the land of Egypt, on the very day, ³  they came to the Desert of Sinai.

So they went up and investigated the land from the wilderness of Zin to Rehob, ¹  at the entrance of Hamath. ² 

(Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites were living in the valleys.) ¹  Tomorrow, turn and journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red Sea.”

When the Israelites were ¹  in the wilderness they found a man gathering wood on the Sabbath day. ² 

Why ¹  have you brought up the Lord’s community into this wilderness? So that ²  we and our cattle should die here?

Then they traveled on from Oboth and camped at Iye Abarim, ¹  in the wilderness that is before Moab, on the eastern side. ² 

The well which the princes ¹  dug, which the leaders of the people opened with their scepters and their staffs.” And from the wilderness they traveled to Mattanah;

For if you turn away from following him, he will once again abandon ¹  them in the wilderness, and you will be the reason for their destruction.” ² 

Then I sent messengers from the Kedemoth ¹  Desert to King Sihon of Heshbon with an offer of peace:

They did not see ¹  what he did to you in the desert before you reached this place,

The Lord ¹  found him ²  in a desolate land, in an empty wasteland where animals howl. ³  He continually guarded him ⁴  and taught him; ⁵  he continually protected him ⁶  like the pupil ⁷  of his eye.

including the hill country, the lowlands, ¹  the Arabah, the slopes, the wilderness, and the Negev – the land of ²  the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites:

When they left ¹  Egypt, Israel traveled ²  through the desert as far as the Red Sea and then came to Kadesh.

They took all the Amorite territory from the Arnon River on the south to the Jabbok River on the north, from the desert in the east to the Jordan in the west. ¹ 

David realized ¹  that Saul had come out to seek his life; at that time David was in Horesh in the desert of Ziph.

Look, I will be waiting at the fords of the desert until word from you ¹  reaches me.”

So Benaiah son of Jehoiada went up and executed Joab; ¹  he was buried at his home in the wilderness.

He then asked, “Which invasion route are we going to take?” ¹  Jehoram ²  answered, “By the road through the Desert of Edom.”

Now the Lord’s tabernacle (which Moses had made in the wilderness) and the altar for burnt sacrifices were at that time at the worship center ¹  in Gibeon.
