When ¹  Adam had lived 130 years he fathered a son in his own likeness, according to his image, and he named him Seth.

The older daughter ¹  gave birth to a son and named him Moab. ²  He is the ancestor of the Moabites of today.

The first came out reddish ¹  all over, ²  like a hairy ³  garment, so they named him Esau. ⁴ 

Then Rachel said, “I have fought a desperate struggle with my sister, but I have won.” ¹  So she named him Naphtali. ² 

Leah said, “How happy I am, ¹  for women ²  will call me happy!” So she named him Asher. ³ 

Then Leah said, “God has granted me a reward ¹  because I gave my servant to my husband as a wife.” ²  So she named him Issachar. ³ 

She named him Joseph, ¹  saying, “May the Lord give me yet another son.”

Then she had ¹  yet another son, whom she named Shelah. She gave birth to him in Kezib. ² 

Afterward his brother came out – the one who had the scarlet thread on his hand – and he was named Zerah. ¹ 

When she bore ¹  a son, Moses ²  named him Gershom, for he said, “I have become a resident foreigner in a foreign land.” ³ 

For you must not worship ¹  any other god, ²  for the Lord, whose name ³  is Jealous, is a jealous God.

His concubine, ¹  who lived in Shechem, also gave him a son, whom he named Abimelech. ² 

Manoah’s wife ¹  gave birth to a son and named him Samson. ²  The child grew and the Lord empowered ³  him.

Then a champion ¹  came out from the camp of the Philistines. His name was Goliath; he was from Gath. He was close to seven feet tall. ² 

and sent word through Nathan the prophet that he should be named Jedidiah ¹  for the Lord’s sake.

The king of Babylon made Mattaniah, Jehoiachin’s ¹  uncle, king in Jehoiachin’s place. He renamed him Zedekiah.

Jabez was more respected than his brothers. His mother had named him Jabez, for she said, “I experienced pain when I gave birth to him.” ¹ 

Ascribe to the Lord the splendor he deserves! ¹  Bring an offering and enter his presence! Worship the Lord in holy attire! ² 

My enemies ask this cruel question about me, ¹  ‘When will he finally die and be forgotten?’ ²
