Revelation 6:12

6:12 Then 1  I looked when the Lamb opened the sixth seal, and a huge 2  earthquake took place; the sun became as black as sackcloth made of hair, 3  and the full moon became blood red; 4

8:5 Then 5  the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and threw it on the earth, and there were crashes of thunder, roaring, 6  flashes of lightning, and an earthquake.

11:19 Then 7  the temple of God in heaven was opened and the ark of his covenant was visible within his temple. And there were flashes of lightning, roaring, 8  crashes of thunder, an earthquake, and a great hailstorm. 9 

1 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “then” to indicate the implied sequence of events within the vision.

2 tn Or “powerful”; Grk “a great.”

3 tn Or “like hairy sackcloth” (L&N 8.13).

4 tn Grk “like blood,” understanding αἷμα (aima) as a blood-red color rather than actual blood (L&N 8.64).

5 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “then” to indicate the implied sequence of events within the vision.

6 tn Or “sounds,” “voices.” It is not entirely clear what this refers to. BDAG 1071 s.v. φωνή 1 states, “In Rv we have ἀστραπαὶ καὶ φωναὶ καὶ βρονταί (cp. Ex 19:16) 4:5; 8:5; 11:19; 16:18 (are certain other sounds in nature thought of here in addition to thunder, as e.g. the roar of the storm?…).”
