Context10:21 On that same occasion 4 Jesus 5 rejoiced 6 in the Holy Spirit and said, “I praise 7 you, Father, Lord 8 of heaven and earth, because 9 you have hidden these things from the wise 10 and intelligent, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your gracious will. 11 10:22 All things have been given to me by my Father. 12 No one knows who the Son is except the Father, or who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son decides 13 to reveal him.”
10:23 Then 14 Jesus 15 turned 16 to his 17 disciples and said privately, “Blessed 18 are the eyes that see what you see! 10:24 For I tell you that many prophets and kings longed to see 19 what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.”

Context18:34 But 20 the twelve 21 understood none of these things. This 22 saying was hidden from them, and they did not grasp 23 what Jesus meant. 24

2 sn The passive verb had been concealed probably indicates that some force was preventing them from responding. It is debated whether God or Satan is meant here. By 24:25 it is clear that their lack of response is their own responsibility. The only way to reverse this is to pay careful attention as v. 44a urges.
3 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “yet” to indicate that in spite of their lack of understanding, the disciples were afraid to ask about it. Because of the length and complexity of the Greek sentence, a new sentence was started here in the translation.
