Leviticus 8:16

Context
8:16 Then he 2  took all the fat on the entrails, the protruding lobe of the liver, and the two kidneys and their fat, 3  and Moses offered it all up in smoke on the altar, 4

Leviticus 11:42

Context
11:42 You must not eat anything that crawls 5  on its belly or anything that walks on all fours or on any number of legs 6  of all the swarming things that swarm on the land, because they are detestable.

Leviticus 14:9

14:9 When the seventh day comes 7  he must shave all his hair – his head, his beard, his eyebrows, all his hair – and he must wash his clothes, bathe his body in water, and so be clean. 8

Leviticus 14:45

Context
14:45 He must tear down the house, 9  its stones, its wood, and all the plaster of the house, and bring all of it 10  outside the city to an unclean place.

1 sn See the note on this phrase in 3:3.

2 tn Again, Aaron probably performed the slaughter and collected the fat parts (v. 16a), but Moses presented it all on the altar (v. 16b; cf. the note on v. 15 above).

3 sn See Lev 3:3-4 for the terminology of fat and kidneys here.

4 tn Heb “toward the altar” (see the note on Lev 1:9).

5 tn Heb “goes” (KJV, ASV “goeth”); NIV “moves about”; NLT “slither along.” The same Hebrew term is translated “walks” in the following clause.

6 tn Heb “until all multiplying of legs.”

7 tn Heb “And it shall be on the seventh day.”

8 tn Heb “and he shall be clean” (see the note on v. 8).

9 tn Smr, LXX, Syriac, and Tg. Ps.-J. have the plural verb, perhaps suggesting a passive translation, “The house…shall be torn down” (cf. NAB, NIV, TEV, NLT, and see the note on v. 4b above).

10 tn Once again, Smr, LXX, and Syriac have the plural verb, perhaps to be rendered passive, “shall be brought.”
