Hebrews 1:1-2

• [Heb 1:1] God, Who In Various Methods Told

  God, who in various methods told His mind and will to saints of old, Sent down His Son, with truth and grace, To teach us in these latter days. Our nation reads the written Word, That book of life, that sure record: The bright inheritance of Heav’n Is by the sweet conveyance giv’n. God’s kindest thoughts are here expressed, Able to make us wise and bless’d; The doctrines are divinely true, Fit for reproof and comfort, too. [The last stanza would, obviously, need updating for a present day use.] Ye British isles, who read His love In long epistles from above, (He hath not sent His sacred Word To every land,) praise ye the Lord.

Hebrews 1:5-6

• [Heb 1:6] Angels Adore Him

  O’er the hills in far Judea, Rang the first glad Christmas song; ’Twas a grand angelic chorus, Shepherds saw the shining throng. Glory streamed across the heavens, Music echoed thro’ the air; Christ the Morning Star hath risen! Tell the tidings everywhere. Refrain Angels adore Him, Hark! We seem to hear Echoes from Heaven, Angel echoes clear. Jesus the mighty Came to earth to bring Priceless redemption Christ our Prophet, Priest and King! Tell again the sweet old story, Of the shepherds on the hill, When the angels from the glory Sang while all the world was still. Tell again the story wondrous, Of the Infant in the stall, Of the guiding star above Him, Shining o’er the Lord of all. Refrain Angels wondered at His coming, To this scene of earthly night, From the fadeless day in glory, From His home so wondrous bright; Angels looked in deep amazement, At the manger of His birth, Understanding not His purpose, To redeem this sinful earth. Refrain

• [Heb 1:6] I Love To Hear The Story

  I love to hear the story which angel voices tell, How once the King of glory came down on earth to dwell. I am both weak and sinful; but this I surely know, The Lord came down to save me, because He loved me so. I’m glad my blessèd Savior was once a child like me, To show how pure and holy His little ones might be; And, if I try to follow His footsteps here below, He never will forget me, because He loves me so. To sing His love and mercy my sweetest songs I’ll raise; And, though I cannot see Him, I know he hears my praise; For He has kindly promised that even I may go To sing among His angels, because He loves me so.

• [Heb 1:6] O Holy Lord, Our God

  O holy Lord, our God, By heav’nly hosts adored, Hear us, we pray; To Thee the cherubim, Angels and seraphim, Unceasing praises hymn, Their homage pay. Here give Thy Word success, And this Thy servant bless, His labors own; And while the sinner’s Friend His life and words commend, The Holy Spirit send, And make him known. May every passing year More happy still appear Than this glad day; With numbers fill the place, Adorn Thy saints with grace, Thy truth may all embrace, O Lord, we pray. O Lord, our God, arise; And now, before our eyes, Thy arm make bare; Unite our hearts in love Till, raised to Heav’n above, We all its fullness prove, And praise Thee there.
