Acts 1:6

Context

1:6 So when they had gathered together, they began to ask him, 1  “Lord, is this the time when you are restoring the kingdom to Israel?”

Acts 3:18

Context
3:18 But the things God foretold 2  long ago through 3  all the prophets – that his Christ 4  would suffer – he has fulfilled in this way.

1 tn Grk “they began to ask him, saying.” The participle λέγοντες (legontes) is redundant in contemporary English and has not been translated. The imperfect tense of the Greek verb ἠρώτων (hrwtwn) has been translated as an ingressive imperfect.

2 sn God foretold. Peter’s topic is the working out of God’s plan and promise through events the scriptures also note.

3 tn Grk “by the mouth of” (an idiom).

4 tn Or “Messiah”; both “Christ” (Greek) and “Messiah” (Hebrew and Aramaic) mean “one who has been anointed.”

sn See the note on Christ in 2:31.
