8:36 then listen from heaven and forgive the sin of your servants, your people Israel. Certainly 1  you will then teach them the right way to live 2  and send rain on your land that you have given your people to possess. 3

Context
Elijah Meets the King’s Servant

18:1 Some time later, in the third year of the famine, the Lord told Elijah, 6  “Go, make an appearance before Ahab, so I may send rain on the surface of the ground.”

1 tn The translation understands כִּי (ki) in an emphatic or asseverative sense.

2 tn Heb “the good way in which they should walk.”

3 tn Or “for an inheritance.”

4 tn Heb “before whom I stand.”

5 tn Heb “except at the command of my word.”

6 tn Heb “the word of the Lord came to Elijah.”
