2:42 the king summoned 1  Shimei and said to him, “You will recall 2  that I made you take an oath by the Lord, and I solemnly warned you, ‘If you ever leave and go anywhere, 3  know for sure that you will certainly die.’ You said to me, ‘The proposal is acceptable; I agree to it.’ 4

18:10 As certainly as the Lord your God lives, my master has sent to every nation and kingdom in an effort to find you. When they say, ‘He’s not here,’ he makes them 5  swear an oath that they could not find you.

18:13 Certainly my master is aware of what I did 6  when Jezebel was killing the Lord’s prophets. I hid one hundred of the Lord’s prophets in two caves in two groups of fifty and I brought them food and water.

1 tn Heb “sent and summoned.”

2 tn Heb “Is it not [true]…?” In the Hebrew text the statement is interrogative; the rhetorical question expects the answer, “Of course it is.”

3 tn Heb “here or there.”

4 tn Heb “good is the word; I have heard.”

5 tn Heb “he makes the kingdom or the nation swear an oath.”

6 tn Heb “Has it not been told to my master what I did…?” The rhetorical question expects an answer, “Of course it has!”
