Psalms 2:3

2:3 They say, “Let’s tear off the shackles they’ve put on us!

Let’s free ourselves from their ropes!”

Psalms 88:8

88:8 You cause those who know me to keep their distance;

you make me an appalling sight to them.

I am trapped and cannot get free.

Psalms 142:7

142:7 Free me from prison,

that I may give thanks to your name.

Because of me the godly will assemble,

for you will vindicate me.

tn The words “they say” are supplied in the translation for clarification. The quotation represents the words of the rebellious kings.

tn Heb “their (i.e., the Lord’s and the king’s) shackles.” The kings compare the rule of the Lord and his vice-regent to being imprisoned.

tn Heb “throw off from us.”

tn Heb “[I am] confined and I cannot go out.”

tn Heb “bring out my life.”

tn Or “gather around.”

tn The Hebrew idiom גָּמַל עַל (gamalal) means “to repay,” here in a positive sense.
