19:3 There is no actual speech or word,
nor is its 1 voice literally heard.
44:18 We have not been unfaithful, 2
nor have we disobeyed your commands. 3
89:33 But I will not remove 4 my loyal love from him,
nor be unfaithful to my promise. 5
1 tn Heb “their.” The antecedent of the plural pronoun is “heavens” (v. 1).
2 tn Heb “our heart did not turn backward.” Cf. Ps 78:57.
3 tn Heb “and our steps did [not] turn aside from your path.” The negative particle is understood by ellipsis (see the preceding line). God’s “path” refers to his commands, i.e., the moral pathway he has prescribed for the psalmist. See Pss 17:5; 25:4.
4 tn Heb “break”; “make ineffectual.” Some prefer to emend אָפִיר (’afir; the Hiphil of פָּרַר, parar, “to break”) to אָסִיר (’asir; the Hiphil of סוּר, sur, “to turn aside”), a verb that appears in 2 Sam 7:15.
5 tn Heb “and I will not deal falsely with my faithfulness.”
