Numbers 1:45

1:45 All the Israelites who were twenty years old or older, who could serve in Israel’s army, were numbered ¹  according to their families.

Numbers 4:3

4:3 from thirty years old and upward to fifty years old, all who enter the company ²  to do the work in the tent of meeting.

Numbers 10:25

10:25 The standard of the camp of the Danites set out, which was the rear guard ³  of all the camps by their companies; over his company was Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai.

Numbers 15:26

15:26 And the whole community ⁴  of the Israelites and the resident foreigner who lives among them will be forgiven, since all the people were involved in the unintentional offense.

Numbers 16:29

16:29 If these men die a natural death, ⁵  or if they share the fate ⁶  of all men, then the Lord has not sent me.

¹ tn Literally the text has, “and all the numbered of the Israelites were according to their families.” The verb in the sentence is actually without a complement (see v. 46).

² tn The word “company” is literally “host, army” (צָבָא, tsava’). The repetition of similar expressions makes the translation difficult: Heb “all [who] come to the host to do work in the tent.”

³ tn The MT uses a word that actually means “assembler,” so these three tribes made up a strong rear force recognized as the assembler of all the tribes.

⁴ tn Again, rather than translate literally “and it shall be forgiven [to] them” (all the community), one could say, “they (all the community) will be forgiven.” The meaning is the same.

⁵ tn Heb “if like the death of every man they die.”

⁶ tn The noun is פְּקֻדָּה (pÿquddah, “appointment, visitation”). The expression refers to a natural death, parallel to the first expression.
