8:4 Then Jesus said to him, “See that you do not speak to anyone, 1  but go, show yourself to a priest, and bring the offering 2  that Moses commanded, 3  as a testimony to them.” 4

26:64 Jesus said to him, “You have said it yourself. But I tell you, from now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand 6  of the Power 7  and coming on the clouds of heaven.” 8 

1 sn The command for silence was probably meant to last only until the cleansing took place with the priests and sought to prevent Jesus’ healings from becoming the central focus of the people’s reaction to him. See also 9:30, 12:16, 16:20, and 17:9 for other cases where Jesus asks for silence concerning him and his ministry.

3 sn On the phrase bring the offering that Moses commanded see Lev 14:1-32.

4 tn Or “as an indictment against them.” The pronoun αὐτοῖς (autoi") may be a dative of disadvantage.

5 sn A quotation from Ps 8:2.

6 sn An allusion to Ps 110:1. This is a claim that Jesus shares authority with God in heaven. Those present may have thought they were his judges, but, in fact, the reverse was true.

7 sn The expression the right hand of the Power is a circumlocution for referring to God. Such indirect references to God were common in 1st century Judaism out of reverence for the divine name.

8 sn An allusion to Dan 7:13 (see also Matt 24:30).
