Luke 13:2

13:2 He ¹  answered them, “Do you think these Galileans were worse sinners ²  than all the other Galileans, because they suffered these things?

Luke 21:7

21:7 So ³  they asked him, ⁴  “Teacher, when will these things ⁵  happen? And what will be the sign that ⁶  these things are about to take place?”

¹ tn Grk “And he.” Here καί (kai) has been translated as “now” to indicate the transition to a new topic.

² sn Jesus did not want his hearers to think that tragedy was necessarily a judgment on these people because they were worse sinners.

³ tn Here δέ (de) has been translated as “so” to indicate the implied result of Jesus’ comments about the temple’s future destruction.

⁴ tn Grk “asked him, saying.” The participle λέγοντες (legontes) is redundant in English and has not been translated.

⁵ sn Both references to these things are plural, so more than the temple’s destruction is in view. The question may presuppose that such a catastrophe signals the end.
