Luke 12:39

12:39 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief ¹  was coming, he would not have let ²  his house be broken into.

Luke 20:13

20:13 Then ³  the owner of the vineyard said, ‘What should I do? I will send my one dear son; ⁴  perhaps they will respect him.’

Luke 20:15

20:15 So ⁵  they threw him out of the vineyard and killed ⁶  him. What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them?

Luke 22:11

22:11 and tell the owner of the house, ⁷  ‘The Teacher says to you, “Where is the guest room where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?”’

² tc Most mss (א¹ A B L Q W Θ Ψ 070 Ë^1,13 33 Ï lat sy^p,h sa^ms bo) read “he would have watched and not let” here, but this looks like an assimilation to Matt 24:43. The alliance of two important and early mss along with a few others (Ì⁷⁵ א* [D] e i sy^s,c sa^mss), coupled with much stronger internal evidence, suggests that the shorter reading is authentic.

³ tn Here δέ (de) has been translated as “then” to indicate the implied sequence of events within the narrative.

⁴ tn Grk “my beloved son.” See comment at Luke 3:22.

sn The owner’s decision to send his one dear son represents God sending Jesus.

⁵ tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “so” to indicate the implied result of the tenants’ decision to kill the son.

⁶ sn Throwing the heir out of the vineyard pictures Jesus’ death outside of Jerusalem.

⁷ tn Grk “to the master of the household,” referring to one who owns and manages the household, including family, servants, and slaves (L&N 57.14).
