Luke 1:23

1:23 When his time of service was over, he went to his home.

Luke 2:47

2:47 And all who heard Jesus were astonished at his understanding and his answers.

Luke 11:21

11:21 When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his possessions are safe.

Luke 24:40

24:40 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet.

tn Grk “And it happened that as the days of his service were ended.” The introductory phrase ἐγένετο (egeneto, “it happened that”), common in Luke (69 times) and Acts (54 times), is redundant in contemporary English and has not been translated.

tn Grk “him”; the referent (Jesus) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

sn There was wonder (all who heard…were astonished) that Jesus at such a young age could engage in such a discussion. The fact that this story is told of a preteen hints that Jesus was someone special.

tn The referent of the expression “a strong man” is Satan.

tn The word αὐλή (aulh) describes any building large and elaborate enough to have an interior courtyard, thus “dwelling, palace, mansion” (L&N 7.6).

tn Grk “his goods are in peace.”

tc Some Western mss (D it) lack 24:40. However, it is present in all other mss, including Ì75, and should thus be regarded as an original part of Luke’s Gospel.
