Joshua 4:8
4:8 The Israelites did just as Joshua commanded. They picked up twelve stones, according to the number of the Israelite tribes, from the middle of the Jordan as the Lord had instructed Joshua. They carried them over with them to the camp and put them there.
Joshua 8:31
8:31 just as Moses the Lord’s servant had commanded the Israelites. As described in the law scroll of Moses, it was made with uncut stones untouched by an iron tool. 1 They offered burnt sacrifices on it and sacrificed tokens of peace. 2
Joshua 9:24
9:24 They said to Joshua, “It was carefully reported to your subjects 3 how the Lord your God commanded Moses his servant to assign you the whole land and to destroy all who live in the land from before you. Because of you we were terrified 4 we would lose our lives, so we did this thing.
Joshua 23:16
23:16 If you violate the covenantal laws of the Lord your God which he commanded you to keep, 5 and follow, worship, and bow down to other gods, 6 the Lord will be very angry with you and you will disappear 7 quickly from the good land which he gave to you.”
1 tn Heb “as it is written in the scroll of the law of Moses, an altar of whole stones on which no one had wielded iron.” The expression “whole stones” refers to stones in their natural condition, i.e., not carved or shaped artificially with tools (“wielded iron”).
