Joshua 2:24

2:24 They told Joshua, “Surely the Lord is handing over all the land to us! ¹  All who live in the land are cringing before us!” ² 

Joshua 6:7

6:7 And he told ³  the army, ⁴  “Move ahead ⁵  and march around the city, with armed troops going ahead of the ark of the Lord.”

8:4 He told ⁶  them, “Look, set an ambush behind the city. Don’t go very far from the city; all of you be ready!

Joshua 10:8

10:8 The Lord told Joshua, “Don’t be afraid of them, for I am handing them over to you. ⁷  Not one of them can resist you.” ⁸

13:1 When Joshua was very old, ⁹  the Lord told him, “You are very old, and a great deal of land remains to be conquered.

¹ tn Heb “Surely the Lord has given into our hand all the land.” The report by the spies uses the Hebrew perfect, suggesting certitude.

² tn Heb “are melting away because of us.”

³ tn An alternative reading is “and they said.” In this case the subject is indefinite and the verb should be translated as passive, “[the army] was told.”

⁴ tn Heb “the people.”

⁵ tn Heb “pass by.”

⁶ tn Or “commanded, ordered.”

⁷ tn Heb “I have given them into your hand.” The verbal form is a perfect of certitude, emphasizing the certainty of the action.

⁸ tn Heb “and not a man [or “one”] of them will stand before you.”

⁹ tn Heb “was old, coming into the days.” This expression, referring to advancing in years, also occurs in the following clause.
