Joshua 13:14
13:14 However, Moses 1 did not assign land as an inheritance 2 to the Levites; their inheritance 3 is the sacrificial offerings 4 made to the Lord God of Israel, as he instructed 5 them.
Joshua 17:4
17:4 They went before Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the leaders and said, “The Lord told Moses to assign us land among our relatives.” 6 So Joshua 7 assigned them land among their uncles, as the Lord had commanded. 8
Joshua 21:2
21:2 in Shiloh in the land of Canaan and said, “The Lord told Moses to assign us cities in which to live along with the grazing areas for our cattle.”
1 tn Heb “he”; the referent (Moses) has been specified in the translation for clarity.
2 tn Heb “did not assign an inheritance.”
3 tn That is, “their source of food and life.”
4 tn Or “offerings made by fire.”
5 tn Or “promised” (Heb “spoke”).
sn For the background of this observation, see Deut 18:1-2.
6 tn Heb “The Lord commanded Moses to assign to us an inheritance in the midst of our brothers.” Since Zelophehad had no sons, “brothers” must refer to their uncles, as the next sentence makes clear.
7 tn Heb “he.” The referent is probably Joshua, although Eleazar is mentioned first in the preceding list.
8 tn Heb “and he assigned to them in accordance with the mouth [i.e., command] of the Lord an inheritance in the midst of the brothers of their father.”
