John 2:19

2:19 Jesus replied, “Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up again.”

John 10:23

10:23 It was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple area in Solomon’s Portico.

tn Grk “answered and said to them.”

tn The imperative here is really more than a simple conditional imperative (= “if you destroy”); its semantic force here is more like the ironical imperative found in the prophets (Amos 4:4, Isa 8:9) = “Go ahead and do this and see what happens.”

sn It was winter. The feast began on 25 Kislev, in November-December of the modern Gregorian calendar.

tn Grk “in the temple.”

tn Or “portico,” “colonnade”; Grk “stoa.”

sn Solomons Portico was a covered walkway formed by rows of columns supporting a roof and open on the inner side facing the center of the temple complex.
