Jeremiah 9:5

9:5 One friend deceives another

and no one tells the truth.

These people have trained themselves ¹  to tell lies.

They do wrong and are unable to repent.

Jeremiah 22:8

22:8 “‘People from other nations will pass by this city. They will ask one another, “Why has the Lord done such a thing to this great city?”

Jeremiah 23:30

23:30 So I, the Lord, affirm ²  that I am opposed to those prophets who steal messages from one another that they claim are from me. ³ 

Jeremiah 36:28

36:28 “Get another ⁴  scroll and write on it everything ⁵  that was written on the original scroll ⁶  that King Jehoiakim of Judah burned.

¹ tn Heb “their tongues.” However, this is probably not a natural idiom in contemporary English and the tongue may stand as a part for the whole anyway.

² tn Heb “Oracle of the Lord.”

³ tn Heb “who are stealing my words from one another.” However, context shows that it is their own word which they claim is from the Lord (cf. next verse).

⁴ tn Heb “Return, take another.” The verb “return” is used in the sense of repetition “take again” (cf. BDB 998 s.v. שׁוּב Qal.8). The idea is already contained in “Get another” so most modern English versions do not represent it.

⁵ tn Heb “all the former words/things.”

⁶ tn Heb “first [or former] scroll.”
