2:30 “It did no good for me to punish your people.

They did not respond to such correction.

You slaughtered your prophets

Jeremiah 17:23

17:23 Your ancestors, 2  however, did not listen to me or pay any attention to me. They stubbornly refused 3  to pay attention or to respond to any discipline.’

1 tn Heb “Your sword devoured your prophets like a destroying lion.” However, the reference to the sword in this and many similar idioms is merely idiomatic for death by violent means.

2 tn Heb “They.” The antecedent is spelled out to avoid any possible confusion.

3 tn Heb “They hardened [or made stiff] their neck so as not to.”
