3:4 They were left to test Israel, so the Lord would know if his people would obey the commands he gave their ancestors through Moses. 1
Judges 11:19-20
11:19 Israel sent messengers to King Sihon, the Amorite king who ruled in Heshbon, and said to him, “Please allow us to pass through your land to our land.” 2
11:20 But Sihon did not trust Israel to pass through his territory. He 3 assembled his whole army, 4 camped in Jahaz, and fought with Israel.
