2:10 That entire generation passed away; 1  a new generation grew up 2  that had not personally experienced the Lord’s presence or seen what he had done for Israel. 3 

Judges 6:22

6:22 When Gideon realized 4  that it was the Lord’s messenger, he 5  said, “Oh no! 6  Master, Lord! 7  I have seen the Lord’s messenger face to face!”

1 tn Heb “All that generation were gathered to their fathers.”

2 tn Heb “arose after them.”

3 tn Heb “that did not know the Lord or the work which he had done for Israel.” The expressions “personally experienced” and “seen” are interpretive.

4 tn Heb “saw.”

5 tn Heb “Gideon.” The proper name has been replaced by the pronoun (“he”) in the translation for stylistic reasons.

6 tn Or “Ah!”

7 tn The Hebrew text reads אֲדֹנַי יְהוִה (’adonay yÿhvih, “Lord [the same title used in v. 15], Lord”).
