1 tn Heb “The men of Judah captured Gaza and its surrounding territory, Ashkelon and its surrounding territory, and Ekron and its surrounding territory.”

2 tn Heb “the house of Ephraim.”

3 tn Or “Israel experienced great distress.” Perhaps here the verb has the nuance “hemmed in.”

4 tn Or “camped in.”

5 tn Or “spread out.” The Niphal of נָטָשׁ (natash) has this same sense in 2 Sam 5:18, 22.
