22:11 You made a reservoir between the two walls
for the water of the old pool –
but you did not trust in 2 the one who made it; 3
you did not depend on 4 the one who formed it long ago!
46:4 Even when you are old, I will take care of you, 5
even when you have gray hair, I will carry you.
I made you and I will support you;
I will carry you and rescue you. 6
47:6 I was angry at my people;
I defiled my special possession
and handed them over to you.
You showed them no mercy; 7
you even placed a very heavy burden on old people. 8
1 tn Heb “lightly dressed and barefoot, and bare with respect to the buttocks, the nakedness of Egypt.”
2 tn Heb “look at”; NAB, NRSV “did not look to.”
3 tn The antecedent of the third feminine singular suffix here and in the next line is unclear. The closest feminine noun is “pool” in the first half of the verse. Perhaps this “old pool” symbolizes the entire city, which had prospered because of God’s provision and protection through the years.
4 tn Heb “did not see.”
5 tn Heb “until old age, I am he” (NRSV similar); NLT “I will be your God throughout your lifetime.”
6 sn Unlike the weary idol gods, whose images must be carried by animals, the Lord carries his weary people.
7 tn Or “compassion.”
8 tn Heb “on the old you made very heavy your yoke.”
