Hebrews 2:11

2:11 For indeed he who makes holy and those being made holy all have the same origin, ¹  and so ²  he is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters, ³ 

Hebrews 11:3

11:3 By faith we understand that the worlds ⁴  were set in order at God’s command, ⁵  so that the visible has its origin in the invisible. ⁶

¹ tn Grk “are all from one.”

² tn Grk “for which reason.”

³ tn Grk “brothers,” but the Greek word may be used for “brothers and sisters” as here (cf. BDAG 18 s.v. ἀδελφός 1, where considerable nonbiblical evidence for the plural ἀδελφοί [adelfoi] meaning “brothers and sisters” is cited). The context here also indicates both men and women are in view; note especially the collective τὰ παιδία (ta paidia) in v. 14.

⁴ tn Grk “ages.” The temporal (ages) came to be used of the spatial (what exists in those time periods). See Heb 1:2 for same usage.

⁵ tn Grk “by God’s word.”

⁶ sn The Greek phrasing emphasizes this point by negating the opposite: “so that what is seen did not come into being from things that are visible.”
