43:33 They sat before him, arranged by order of birth, beginning with the firstborn and ending with the youngest. 1  The men looked at each other in astonishment. 2 

Genesis 48:2

48:2 When Jacob was told, 3  “Your son Joseph has just 4  come to you,” Israel regained strength and sat up on his bed.

1 tn Heb “the firstborn according to his birthright and the youngest according to his youth.”

2 sn The brothers’ astonishment indicates that Joseph arranged them in this way. They were astonished because there was no way, as far as they were concerned, that Joseph could have known the order of their birth.

3 tn Heb “and one told and said.” The verbs have no expressed subject and can be translated with the passive voice.

4 tn Heb “Look, your son Joseph.”
